The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced the arrest of a 45-year-old man, Adewunmi Taiwo, who was impersonating a LASTMA officer on the Oshodi Bridge to extort commercial and private motorists.
The impostor, hailing from Ilesha in Osun State, admitted to using his fake identity to intimidate drivers and collect between N15,000 and N25,000 daily from unsuspecting motorists.
According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq, officers apprehended Taiwo, who operated a white Hiace Coaster Bus with the license plate KJA 724 YJ. A search of his vehicle revealed a full LASTMA uniform, including a branded raincoat, confirming his intent to deceive the public.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, addressed the incident, warning against unlawful impersonation and asserting that the agency would prosecute Taiwo. “We are committed to protecting LASTMA’s reputation and will not tolerate anyone undermining our integrity,” he declared.
The agency called on Lagos motorists to report suspicious behavior via LASTMA’s toll-free hotlines, as it intensifies efforts to protect traffic management across the state.
