A 50-year-old herbalist, Kehinde Ganiyu, has been apprehended by Nigerian police for the murder of his friend, Emmanuel Collins, in a disturbing money ritual scheme.
The incident occurred last Thursday in Oba-Oke, Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State.
Parading the suspect on Friday, Osun Police Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola revealed that Ganiyu slit Collins' throat to make ritual soap for internet fraudsters known as "Yahoo boys."
Opalola stated, “On July 18, 2024, at about 3pm, the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Odo Division in Osogbo was informed that a Ghanaian man named Emmanuel Collins, approximately 35 years old, was killed at around 2:30pm.”
Police detectives acted swiftly, and their investigation led to the arrest of Ganiyu, a close friend of the deceased, who confessed to the crime.
Authorities recovered four blood-stained knives, a pot of black soap, a traditional tray known as ‘Opon Ifa’, a wooden box, two sponges, and various local charms from Ganiyu’s possession.
In an interview on Friday, July 26, Ganiyu admitted to murdering his friend and using his throat to create ritual soap.
He confessed, “I am a herbalist and farmer. I used to perform rituals for individuals involved in internet fraud. I went to visit my friend Emmanuel Collins because he was ill.
While he was in bed, I took a knife and cut his throat to make ritual money soap for Yahoo boys.”
Following Collins' death, the Oba-Oke community was gripped by panic.
Ganiyu attended his friend’s burial to offer condolences, but his guilty behavior raised suspicions, leading to a police investigation that ultimately identified him as the killer.
