Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has stirred the football scene with a passionate critique of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, saying Ghana’s Black Stars are currently in better shape.
In a recent interview, the "Vibration" hitmaker didn’t hold back his concerns, admitting that while Nigeria is blessed with a wealth of footballing talent, the inability to mold those talents into a cohesive team is holding the country back.
"For some reason, we have not been able to combine the brilliance of each player to form a solid team," he said.
"I think it will take time. We have a lot of talents, but we have not been able to utilize them."
Fireboy pointed out a key area of weakness: the midfield. Using Ghana as a benchmark, he cited the dominance of Thomas Partey as a clear example of what Nigeria lacks.
"Unlike Ghana, we don’t have a good midfield. Thomas Partey alone—we don’t have a midfield to battle that," he noted.
"You saw how Partey handled Real Madrid during their Champions League clash with Arsenal. We don’t have that."
The singer's comments have sparked discussions among fans and analysts, especially in light of recent performances by both West African rivals.
While the Super Eagles boast elite forwards and defenders, Fireboy's take highlights a longstanding issue many believe needs urgent attention.
