Benue Governor Hosts Defence Advisory Team, Announces State Security Summit to Tackle Rising Insecurity

In  a significant move to tackle the escalating security crisis in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia yesterday held a crucial interactive session with the Advisory Team dispatched by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
The high-level meeting took place at the Government House in Makurdi and focused on assessing the prevailing security challenges across the state.

During the session, Governor Alia revealed plans to convene a Benue State Security Summit, aimed at proffering sustainable solutions to the rising wave of violence and displacement that have gripped parts of the state in recent months.

The summit, he noted, will bring together critical stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to chart a unified course towards peace and security.

“Insecurity has continued to plague several of our communities, especially in areas like Kwande, Ukum, Katsina-Ala, Logo, and Gwer-West,” the governor stated.

“Our people have suffered unimaginable hardship, but I want to assure every citizen of Benue that we are fully committed to ending these senseless killings and restoring peace.”

The Governor further disclosed that consultations are ongoing with his counterparts in the North Central geopolitical zone to host a North Central Security Summit, emphasizing the need for regional collaboration in confronting shared security threats.

He extended his appreciation to General Christopher Musa for his unwavering commitment to peace in Benue and encouraged the visiting Advisory Team to extend their fact-finding mission to neighboring states such as Taraba and Nasarawa, given their strategic proximity and shared security concerns.

“Peace is not just a goal—it is a collective responsibility. Together, we will reclaim our communities and restore lasting peace to Benue State and the entire North Central region,” Governor Alia affirmed.

The visit by the Defence Advisory Team underscores the federal government’s continued interest in resolving the insecurity plaguing the Middle Belt and aligns with broader national efforts to safeguard lives and property across Nigeria.
