Benue State | April 12, 2025 — ConfirmNews.ng
A wave of terror has struck Buruku Local Government Area in Benue State, as residents are now fleeing in droves following fresh and coordinated attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
ConfirmNews can report that the attacks, which began earlier today, have spread rapidly across the Sankera axis covering Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo leaving several communities in disarray and on the brink of collapse.
Sources on ground describe the situation as "completely out of control," with many families abandoning their homes, farms, and belongings to escape the violence.
“We were woken by gunshots and screaming. Everyone ran children, women, old people,” a survivor from Tse-Agberagba in Kwande told ConfirmNews by phone.
Reports also indicate that the Kwande region is facing similarly devastating attacks, with gunmen destroying properties and forcing entire villages into displacement.
The violence isn’t limited to Sankera and Kwande. Residents in MINDA and Jemgbagh zones have also raised alarms over the increased presence of armed Fulani herders. Communities in these regions report growing tension and fears of imminent assaults.
Amid the chaos, only the Jerchira axis believed to be the stronghold of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s kinsmen remains largely untouched, a development that has sparked outrage among residents of the affected areas, who feel abandoned and unprotected.
There is growing pressure on the Benue State Government and federal security agencies to take urgent action.
Local leaders are calling for immediate military intervention and a state of emergency in the worst-hit regions to stem the rising tide of violence and displacement.
No official government statement has been issued at the time of filing this report, but security sources say reinforcements may be deployed soon.
This is a developing story… More details to follow.
