In a surprise political gathering that has sparked fresh speculations, former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, alongside ex-Governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), paid a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his private residence in Kaduna.
A video that surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) captured moments from the Friday visit, showing a powerful lineup of Nigerian political figures.
Others present included former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami; ex-Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa; former Benue State Governor and Senator, Gabriel Suswam; and Jibrilla Bindow, the former Governor of Adamawa State.
The visit, which came days after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, was confirmed by Atiku on his verified X handle, where he shared brief remarks but kept the agenda of the closed-door meeting under wraps.
"As the Waziri Adamawa, I was obligated to be in Adamawa during the Sallah celebrations. I held forth for the Lamido Fombina in some of the Sallah activities," Atiku posted.
"Today, I had the opportunity to pay a post-Sallah visit to His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2015–2023. It was a wonderful time with him. As usual, he cracked me up (to the extent that my ribs were hurting) with his peculiar humour."
While the former Vice President emphasized the personal and cordial nature of the visit, observers say the convergence of such heavyweight figures across party lines may carry deeper political undertones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
