INEC Defends BVAS and IReV, Dismisses Scam Allegations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has strongly refuted allegations that its Bi-Modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) are fraudulent.
The electoral body assured Nigerians that both technologies remain crucial in ensuring transparency and credibility in the country’s electoral process.

In a statement released on Sunday, INEC emphasized that BVAS and IReV were designed to enhance election integrity by reducing voter fraud and making election results accessible in real time.

The commission acknowledged challenges faced in previous elections but maintained that the systems are not designed to manipulate results.

"BVAS ensures that only eligible voters are accredited, while IReV provides the public with access to polling unit results.

These innovations have significantly improved the electoral process, and we remain committed to their continuous enhancement," INEC stated.

The commission’s defense comes amid criticisms from opposition parties and civil society groups, who argue that technical failures and irregularities have raised doubts about the effectiveness of the platforms.

However, INEC assured that measures are being taken to address any operational lapses ahead of future elections.

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, INEC reiterated its dedication to free, fair, and credible polls, urging Nigerians to support efforts to strengthen the electoral system rather than discredit it.
