The political turmoil in Rivers State has intensified as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared his determination to resist any attempt to remove him from office, even as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issues a stern warning to loyalists of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The crisis, which has been brewing for months, took a new turn with fresh threats of impeachment against Fubara, allegedly orchestrated by lawmakers and political figures aligned with Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Addressing his supporters, Fubara vowed to defend his mandate, insisting that he would not be intimidated by those seeking to unseat him. “No amount of pressure or political gang-up will make me abandon the trust given to me by the people of Rivers State,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the PDP leadership has warned pro-Wike lawmakers and political appointees against any move that could destabilize the state. The party’s national leadership described the impeachment threats as a dangerous plot that could plunge Rivers into chaos.
“The PDP will not tolerate any unconstitutional attempt to undermine a duly elected governor,” a party spokesman said.
Tensions remain high as political watchers speculate on the next move in what has become a fierce battle for control of the oil-rich state.
