A fire outbreak occurred on Monday at the premises of Geometric Power, also known as Aba Power, in Aba, Abia State.
The management of the utility company confirmed the incident in an official statement, noting that the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, but the affected structure was identified as a temporary building used over a decade ago by Group 5, a now-defunct South African electricity firm, during the construction of facilities for the integrated power company. According to the statement, the building had seen little use for over 12 years.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the fire’s origin, the management of Geometric Power assured the public that the situation was promptly handled.
Staff members of the company successfully contained the fire before the arrival of the Abia State Fire Service, which responded swiftly to the emergency call.
The management praised both its employees and the fire service for their efficiency and professionalism in addressing the situation.
Additionally, Geometric Power extended its gratitude to members of the public for their concern and support.
The company reiterated its commitment to providing consistent, high-quality, and affordable electricity to the Aba Power Ring-fenced Area and beyond, emphasizing its dedication to the socioeconomic advancement of Nigeria.
The company assured residents and stakeholders that operations remain unaffected and that measures are in place to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
