In a dramatic turn of events, operatives of the Edo State Police Command successfully rescued the Onogie of Udo-Eguare a revered traditional ruler in Edo Central who was abducted on February 3.
The rescue operation, carried out at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday, underscores the unyielding commitment of law enforcement and community stakeholders to safeguard public figures and uphold the rule of law.
Speaking from the state capital, Benin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, credited the success of the operation to sustained police efforts bolstered by the active support of the Edo State Government, local vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning residents.
“This rescue is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our community and the relentless determination of our officers,” Yamu stated.
The operation was spearheaded by Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Betty Otimenyin, whose personal vow to secure the release of the kidnapped ruler was a driving force behind the mission.
“Our team worked tirelessly, leaving no stone unturned, to bring our traditional leader back safely,” Yamu added.
Governor Monday Okpebholo's logistical support was also instrumental in the success of the operation. CSP Yamu expressed gratitude on behalf of the Edo State Police Command, acknowledging the invaluable assistance provided by both the state government and the local community.
“We equally appreciate the efforts of the vigilantes, hunters, and all other residents who stood by us. Their support has been crucial in our fight against crime,” he said.
