An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Federal Government to begin the disbursement of monthly allocations to the APC-elected local government chairmen recently reinstated by the court in Osun State.
Speaking in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, Oyintiloye insisted that the state government would eventually be held accountable for funds spent on the recently conducted local government election, which he described as a waste of taxpayers’ money.
He argued that with the Court of Appeal ruling in favor of the reinstated chairmen, it was time for them to receive their due allocations to enable them to function effectively.
He appealed to the Federal Government to commence the release of funds, stressing that the chairmen had been unable to serve since their removal in 2022.
Now that the court had reinstated them, he said, they must be empowered to work for the people at the grassroots, who had been deprived of meaningful development for over two years.
Oyintiloye also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his professionalism in maintaining peace and handling security challenges in the state.
He expressed appreciation for the way the police had ensured stability amid the political tensions surrounding the reinstatement of the chairmen.
Despite alleged intimidation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyintiloye praised the reinstated local government chairmen for resuming their duties.
He urged local government staff to return to work, assuring them that adequate security measures were in place to protect them.
He emphasized that the chairmen’s return to office would finally bring much-needed development to the grassroots and restore the long-awaited dividends of democracy to the people.
