The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has debunked claims circulating on social media about a purported Federal Government initiative offering a N50,000 Child Support Grant to all Nigerian parents. The Ministry has labeled the information as false, urging the public to exercise caution.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the Ministry's Director of Information, Mrs. Rhoda Iliya, dismissed the viral claims and clarified that the Ministry is not associated with the supposed grant or any related registration portal.
“This is a scam trending on social media, and the Ministry has tagged it as fake news,” the statement read. Mrs. Iliya emphasized that if the Ministry were to undertake such a program, it would be accompanied by official announcements and proper public awareness campaigns.
The statement further warned Nigerians against falling prey to fraudsters exploiting the false claim, advising, “Be cautious and avoid becoming a victim of these scammers on social media. Inform your family, friends, and well-wishers not to apply for this fake grant.”
This warning comes amidst increasing incidents of social media scams targeting vulnerable populations. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to providing legitimate support programs for Nigerians and promised to maintain transparency in all initiatives.
Authorities urged the public to rely on verified government channels for accurate information and to report any suspicious activities related to the fake grant.
