Carlo Ancelotti to Depart Real Madrid at Season’s End Despite Contract Extension

Carlo Ancelotti has decided to step down as Real Madrid’s head coach at the conclusion of the current season, despite having a contract that runs until 2026.

The Italian tactician, who has achieved remarkable success during his second stint at the club, is resolute in his decision to leave, even if the season ends with silverware and the club urges him to remain.

According to reports from Radioestadio Noche on Onda Cero, Ancelotti has made up his mind to bring his time at the Santiago Bernabéu to a close, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in his managerial career.

Ancelotti’s second spell at Real Madrid has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since returning to the club, he has guided Los Blancos to two La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League crowns, a Copa del Rey, Spanish and European Super Cups, and a FIFA Club World Cup.

These achievements build on his already storied legacy with the club, including leading Madrid to the iconic “La Décima” Champions League triumph in 2014 during his first tenure.

The decision comes despite a contract renewal in December 2023 that had quelled widespread speculation about Ancelotti’s future.

Many believed his tenure was nearing its end, particularly with the Brazilian Football Federation openly courting him for the national team job and delaying their coaching decision in hopes of securing him.

However, after a historic double in June 2024 and a resounding vote of confidence from Real Madrid’s board, Ancelotti renewed his deal, reinforcing expectations of a prolonged stay.

Yet, according to sources close to the manager, the decision to step down this summer has already been made.

“Ancelotti is aware that continuing beyond each season, despite having a valid contract, does not solely depend on him. Nevertheless, he has decided to leave at the end of the current season, even if titles are won and the club insists he stays,” a source revealed.

The report underscores the mutual respect between Ancelotti and the club, with the Italian determined to exit on a high note.

Whether Real Madrid can add to their trophy cabinet this season remains to be seen, but Ancelotti’s departure will undoubtedly mark the end of an era defined by tactical brilliance, historic victories, and an enduring connection with one of football’s most demanding institutions.

As Real Madrid prepares for life beyond Ancelotti, the club will face the challenge of finding a successor capable of filling the void left by one of the most decorated and respected managers in football history.
