The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a suspected cultist, Peter Falola, widely known by his alias, "Black Jesus," on charges of assault, arson, and vandalism. The crimes allegedly took place in the Agbado area, resulting in damages exceeding N1.4 million.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday, Falola was arrested on January 20 after he reportedly launched a violent attack on the home of one Oladipupo Adeniran.
The incident, which occurred on January 15, saw Falola storming Adeniran's residence on Ifelodun Street, Ago Ajeri, around 9:00 am. Witnesses claim the suspect issued violent threats, including promising to burn the house down.
Amid the commotion, Falola allegedly picked up an empty beer bottle and struck Adeniran on the head before stabbing him multiple times.
While neighbors rushed the injured victim to the hospital, the suspect reportedly set fire to Adeniran’s belongings.
Odutola detailed the extensive damage caused by the fire:
“He invaded the victim’s home, making violent threats and smashing a bottle on his head in a fit of rage. The suspect then allegedly set fire to the victim’s clothes and other valuables, including a 6kg gas cylinder, a ceiling fan, an Itel Android phone, a set of chairs, and eight aluminium windows. The sitting room and bedroom ceilings were completely destroyed.”
The property damage is estimated at over N1.4 million.
Police officers from the Agbado Police Station quickly responded to a report filed on January 20, leading to Falola’s arrest. Investigators have since visited the crime scene, and Falola is currently undergoing interrogation.
Odutola confirmed that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for further investigation.
The shocking nature of the crimes has sparked outrage among Agbado residents, who are calling for justice for the victim and stronger measures to curb cult-related activities in the area.
