Fear in Kagarko as Bandits Hijack Van, Steal Food and Drinks

Tension continues to rise in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State as bandits struck again, hijacking a pickup van loaded with foodstuffs and drinks at Akoti village.
This latest attack occurred just 48 hours after another gang of bandits robbed a motorcyclist of similar goods in the same area.

According to a source from the village, the van, laden with essential supplies including bags of rice, a jerrycan of vegetable oil, energy drinks, and bottled water, was en route from Jere to Akoti when it was intercepted.

Armed with AK-47 rifles, the assailants reportedly emerged from the forest, deflated some of the vehicle’s tires, and forced it off the road into the bush.

“The bandits were well-organized and acted swiftly,” the source recounted. “After taking the food items, they freed the driver and his conductor unharmed.”

This incident underscores the growing insecurity in the region, as it mirrors a similar robbery earlier in the week involving a man on a motorcycle. Residents are now living in fear as these attacks disrupt daily life and the local economy.

Efforts to reach ASP Hassan Mansur, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, for comments have so far been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the community has called on the government to address the escalating banditry in the area to restore peace and safety.

For now, the villagers of Akoti and surrounding areas remain on edge, bracing for the next potential attack.
