The Rivers State Government has publicly condemned a recent false news report circulating on social media, claiming that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and all oil companies in the state.
In an official statement, Hon. Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, described the report as baseless, labeling it a "concocted propaganda" aimed at discrediting the administration.
The government further emphasized that the source of the misinformation was an "inconsequential and unverified medium" with no reliable standing.
The Rivers State Government reaffirmed Governor Fubara's commitment to the rule of law, stating that he "does not rely on unconventional and crude approaches to respond to matters of governance."
The governor, they clarified, has not considered or issued any order to close down oil operations, a move that would significantly impact the state’s economy.
Residents of Rivers State and the general public were urged to disregard the fake news and remain assured of the administration’s dedication to maintaining a stable and lawful approach to governance and economic development.
This clarification aims to put an end to speculations and assure the public of the administration's commitment to responsible governance and economic stability.
