In a move to bolster civic engagement and ensure smooth participation in the upcoming local government elections, the Ogun State Government has announced Friday, November 15, as a work-free day for all civil servants.
This directive, issued through a circular on Thursday and signed by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, is aimed at allowing employees ample time to travel to their respective local government areas and exercise their voting rights.
Governor Dapo Abiodun sanctioned the day off, underscoring his commitment to democratic participation and the importance of civic duties across Ogun’s 20 local government areas and 237 wards.
According to the circular, the work-free day will enable civil servants to engage fully in the electoral process without disruption, aligning with the governor’s dedication to fostering a participatory democracy within the state.
Emmanuel Ojo, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the governor, confirmed the directive in a statement to journalists. He highlighted that the decision reflects the administration’s focus on inclusivity, civic duty, and community engagement.
“The Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, has announced that the Ogun State Government has approved Friday, November 15, as a work-free day for civil and public servants,” the statement reads.
“This directive, approved by His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, is intended to give workers the opportunity to travel to their respective local government areas to participate in the local government election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.”
