In a bold move following Donald Trump’s recent return to the White House, Vivian Wilson, the 20-year-old estranged transgender daughter of tech titan Elon Musk, has revealed her intentions to leave the United States.
Wilson, who transitioned in 2022, voiced her concerns about the political climate on Threads, expressing discomfort with Trump’s leadership and the ideological forces supporting him.
“I don’t see my future in the United States,” Wilson wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me. Even if he’s only in office for four years, even if anti-trans regulations don’t materialise, the people who voted for this aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.”
Vivian, born Xavier Musk in 2004, made headlines in April 2022 when she legally changed her name and gender, seeking to sever ties with her father by taking her mother’s maiden name. In court documents, she explained, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
The rift between Musk and Vivian has deepened over time, with Musk openly sharing his strained relationship with her. The Tesla CEO, 53, has referred to Vivian as a “communist” and described her ideological views as starkly opposed to his own.
He also criticized the use of puberty blockers, referring to them as “sterilisation drugs,” and claimed that during COVID, he felt misled into signing documents allowing Xavier’s transition under the impression that refusal could lead to tragedy. “I didn’t fully understand what was happening,” Musk said. “I was told Xavier might commit suicide.”
The billionaire has been vocal in his opposition to certain aspects of the trans community, calling gender dysphoria “incredibly evil” and asserting that those promoting it “should go to prison.
” Musk, who has fathered 12 children from three relationships, has publicly struggled with his daughter's views on wealth and gender identity. “I lost my son,” Musk remarked, adding that “deadnaming” is apt because “your son is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.”
Responding to Musk’s comments, Vivian argued that her father’s influence on her childhood was minimal and that he often disparaged her for her “femininity and queerness.” She stated, “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there.
I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness. I’ve been reduced to a stereotype. I think that says a lot about how he views queer people and children in general.”
Wilson’s departure reflects the challenges and tensions within some American families as they navigate generational and ideological divides in a polarized political landscape.
Her story sheds light on the complex dynamics of one of the world’s most prominent families, as well as the impact of political leadership on personal choices and freedoms in the U.S.
