Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has officially declared nine individuals wanted on charges of terrorism and violent extremism in the North-East, as the military intensifies efforts to combat insurgency and restore peace in the region.
Major-General Edward Buba, the spokesperson for the DHQ, announced the development during a press briefing held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
According to Buba, the wanted individuals are suspected of being involved in a series of attacks and extremist activities that have plagued the North-East region for years.
He identified the suspects as Abu Khadijah, Abur Rahman, Dadi Gumba, Abu Yusuf, Musa Wa’a, Usman Kanin Shehu, Ibrahim Suyeka, Ba Sulhu, and Idris Taklakse.
These individuals are believed to have links with notorious terrorist networks operating within and beyond Nigeria's borders, contributing to the instability that has displaced communities and claimed countless lives.
Buba emphasized that the DHQ remains committed to tracking down these suspects and bringing them to justice, urging members of the public to provide any relevant information that may aid the authorities in locating them.
“The Nigerian military is determined to root out all sources of terrorism and extremism that threaten the peace and security of our nation,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s stance against insurgent forces.
The announcement underscores the ongoing security challenges in the North-East, where extremist groups continue to operate despite significant military efforts to dismantle their networks. This latest move forms part of a broader crackdown aimed at identifying and apprehending key figures who play a role in fostering violence and disrupting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
The DHQ’s appeal for public cooperation highlights the importance of community support in counter-terrorism efforts, as intelligence from locals has proven instrumental in several high-profile arrests in recent years. As the hunt for these individuals intensifies, authorities have encouraged Nigerians to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, with assurances that such information will be treated confidentially.
With the spotlight now on these wanted suspects, the DHQ’s resolve to end terrorism in the region is clearer than ever, promising a rigorous pursuit of those who threaten Nigeria’s peace and stability.
