A comprehensive report from the United Action Front of Civil Society has revealed that 21 individuals lost their lives and 1,154 were arrested by security forces during the #EndBadGovernance protests held across the country.
The report, issued on Friday by Olawale Okunniyi, Head of the Coordinating Secretariat, also noted that 175 people sustained injuries since the protests began on Thursday.
Protesters have made several key demands, including a reduction of fuel prices to the pre-January 2023 rate of ₦167 per litre, opposition to fraudulent subsidy payments, a decrease in electricity tariffs to pre-December 2022 rates, implementation of free vehicle conversions to use affordable compressed natural gas (CNG), immediate presidential action to address corruption and waste in government, a 50% cut in the emoluments and allowances of government officials and political office holders, and a democratic reconfiguration of Nigeria's governance structure.
"We believe that swift government action on these demands will reduce tension in the country and prevent further protests and strikes.
Engaging with the leaders and initiators of these nationwide demonstrations could help avert additional crises," the statement concluded.
