Lagos Police Arrest 124 in Overnight Raid

Lagos State police executed a significant raid on the renowned Fela Shrine and its surrounding areas in Ikeja, resulting in the arrest of numerous individuals involved in illegal activities such as drug peddling and hooliganism.
Led by Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, the night operation over the weekend saw the apprehension of at least 124 suspects.

These individuals had allegedly transformed the area into bustling hard drug markets and roadside liquor stands, posing substantial environmental hazards.

Akerele highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, “The criminal activities at Aminkanle Area of Agbado, Jobi Fele Road by African Shrine, and NerdC Street, particularly at night, present serious dangers to the public.

This clean-up was imperative to restore environmental serenity, safety, and the esteemed status of Lagos State as a Mega City.”

He further emphasized the broader impact, noting, “The indiscriminate drug sales contribute significantly to traffic congestion on nearby roads, affecting workers who endure long hours commuting home after a day’s work.

This situation is unfair to the residents, and we are committed to eradicating it entirely.”
