In a heartfelt gesture of dedication to national security, President Bola Tinubu, unable to attend the North-West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina, sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to deliver a powerful message on Monday.
VP Shettima outlined the administration's significant strides in combating insecurity in the region.
He praised the relentless efforts of security forces, highlighting how enhanced border security and intelligence capabilities have successfully disrupted and dismantled criminal networks. The Vice President emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration among security agencies, ensuring a unified approach in the fight against insurgency.
VP Shettima detailed the ongoing coordination of joint training exercises, inter-agency cooperation, and effective communication among security agencies. He assured Nigerians that these initial successes mark just the beginning of a robust campaign to create a secure environment for all citizens.
“Our military forces, through operations such as Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Safe Haven, have effectively targeted groups like Boko Haram and bandits," Shettima stated. "We have neutralized high-profile figures within these criminal networks, and this is just the beginning."
The Vice President dismissed claims that insecurity in the North-West is a sectional agenda, reinforcing that any threat to one part of the nation destabilizes the entire country. He reiterated the administration's unwavering priority to secure Nigeria since taking office over a year ago.
Shettima noted that non-collaboration among security agencies had previously been a significant hurdle. He expressed optimism that the current integrated strategies are already yielding positive results and vowed there would be no let-up until insurgents are completely eradicated.
The summit saw the attendance of notable dignitaries including former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Sultan of Sokoto, Minister of Defence Muhammad Badaru, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and host governor Umar Radda, along with other North-West governors. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
