In a shocking incident, the Borno State Police Command has confirmed that Justice Haruna Mshelia, a High Court judge, his wife, and their entourage were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Biu Local Government Area.
The abduction took place on Monday while the judge, accompanied by his wife, driver, and security escort, was traveling on the Biu-Maiduguri road. This alarming development was initially reported by SaharaReporters on Monday evening.
ASP Nahum Daso, the spokesperson for the police command, verified the incident, stating, “We received a report from Sani Audu via the Divisional Officer of Biu that on June 21, 2024, at approximately 9 am, the justice, his wife, orderly, and driver were kidnapped near Jiba town.”
The police have launched an investigation to locate and rescue the victims. Although there has been no contact with the kidnappers, the Borno State Police Commissioner has formed a Special Investigation team. This team, comprising the State Intelligence Department and other tactical squads in cooperation with security forces and the DSS, aims to gather forensic evidence to track down and retrieve the victims safely.
