The federal government has initiated measures to improve the efficiency and reliability of health supplies procurement across Nigeria.
The government is dedicated to enhancing health procurement systems as part of its efforts to enhance healthcare service delivery in the country.
During a one-day technical workshop jointly organized by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Health Procurement Africa – CIPS, UK in Abuja, Mamman Ahmadu, the Director General of BPP, emphasized the government's commitment to a pooled unified procurement initiative.
This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
Ahmadu also highlighted the need for a unified effort to ensure the success of the pooled procurement systems.
He mentioned that the BPP has recently implemented several strategic initiatives to address existing challenges and create a more robust, efficient, and transparent procurement process.
These initiatives include setting up e-procurement platforms, strengthening regulatory oversight, capacity building, professional development, enhancing stakeholder engagement and management, and a commitment to sustainable practices.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, emphasized that one of the key points of the initiatives is group procurement, especially for the availability and affordability of health products, particularly for the vulnerable population. Pate expressed the organization’s commitment to supporting the government's agenda and highlighted the importance of educating procurement professionals to ensure the success of these initiatives.
