The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Gudi Division successfully hosted a seminar on peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders on May 28, 2025, in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
The event, which ran from 10:20 AM to 12:05 PM, drew a diverse audience, including farmers, herders, representatives of Miyetti Allah, All Farmers Association, Mada Development Association, youths, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders. Attendees lauded the NSCDC’s pivotal role in fostering peace and unity in the community.
The seminar, aimed at addressing farmer-herder conflicts and promoting sustainable coexistence, was graced by prominent figures, including NSCDC Akwanga Area Commander, ACC Eze B., representing State Commandant Cmdt. Muhammed Kabiru Ingawa.
Other dignitaries included DSC Musa Aliyu, representing the Head of the Agro-Ranger Unit from the State Command in Lafia, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gudi Division, a representative from the Nigerian Air Force, the Emir of Gudi, Alhaji Sule Bawa, and the Hakimi of Gudi, Alhaji Yusuf Sule, who also served as the event’s chairman.
The guest speaker, CSC Ashikegh Stephen, PhD, delivered an insightful presentation on the conceptual framework of the Agro-Rangers initiative, outlining the roles and challenges faced by farmers and herders, and proposing actionable solutions for sustainable peace in the Gudi area. His address emphasized dialogue, mutual respect, and collaboration as key pillars for resolving conflicts and fostering harmony.
Participants expressed appreciation for the NSCDC’s proactive efforts in peacebuilding, noting that the seminar provided a platform for open dialogue and strengthened community ties.
The event underscored the Corps’ commitment to mitigating farmer-herder clashes, a recurring issue in the region, through education, engagement, and community-driven solutions.
