JAMB Releases 2025 UTME Results: Over 1.5 Million Candidates Score Below 200, Only 4,756 Score Above 320

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has published a detailed statistical breakdown of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, revealing key insights into the performance of Nigerian candidates nationwide.

According to the official figures released by the Board, a total of 1,955,069 candidates sat for the UTME this year. Out of this number, more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200, indicating a significant drop in high-level performance compared to previous years.

Only 4,756 candidates scored above 320, while 7,658 candidates secured scores between 300 and 319. This paints a stark picture of the overall performance landscape for the 2025 edition of the examination.

In an accompanying statement, JAMB revealed that 40,247 underage candidates were granted permission to take the UTME, following claims of exceptional academic ability.

However, of these, only 467 candidates (1.16%) managed to meet or surpass the Board’s defined threshold for “exceptional ability.” JAMB added that these candidates would still need to undergo three additional assessment stages to confirm their elite academic status.

Education experts have expressed concern over the low number of top-performing candidates, calling for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s secondary education system to better prepare students for tertiary-level challenges.

The full breakdown of results is now available on the official JAMB portal, and candidates are advised to check their individual performance using their registration details.
