Two Students Shot as Gunfire Erupts at Seventh Day Adventist School

Panic gripped the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, on Friday, April 4, 2025, after a shocking shooting incident left two students seriously injured during school hours.

According to insider reports, the disturbing event unfolded during break time when Bernard Amoabeng, a form two student, allegedly smuggled a firearm onto the school premises.

Eyewitnesses say an argument broke out among a group of students, sparked by doubts over whether the weapon was real or functional.

In a reckless attempt to prove the gun's authenticity, Amoabeng reportedly pulled the trigger—unleashing live ammunition into the crowd of students.

Two of his classmates were struck by the bullet, with one, identified as Penamang, sustaining a critical gunshot wound to her forehead.

Emergency responders rushed Penamang to the Kwadaso Hospital for urgent care, but due to the severity of her condition, she was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The second injured student, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, is also receiving treatment.

Authorities from the Suame Police Division swiftly intervened and arrested Amoabeng at the scene. He is currently in custody as investigations are underway to uncover how he accessed the firearm and whether any other parties may be involved.

The shocking incident has sparked outrage among parents, students, and community members, raising urgent concerns about school safety, student discipline, and the presence of illegal firearms in Ghanaian communities.

Officials from the Ghana Education Service and the Seventh Day Adventist Church are yet to issue formal statements, but school operations have been temporarily suspended to allow for investigations and psychological support for affected students and staff.

This tragic event adds to growing concerns over youth access to weapons and has prompted renewed calls for stricter security protocols in educational institutions across the country.
