Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has officially emerged as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor secured the party’s ticket unopposed during the APGA governorship primary held on Saturday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
Soludo, who was the sole aspirant in the race, was overwhelmingly endorsed by party delegates in what was described as a landslide affirmation of his leadership.
According to the Returning Officer, Uche Nwegbo, a total of 3,260 delegates were expected to vote, with 3,175 accredited. Of the 3,172 votes cast, 3,168 were in support of Soludo, with no dissenting votes and just four declared invalid.
“By the powers conferred on me as the Returning Officer, I hereby declare Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the duly nominated candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance for the Anambra 2025 governorship election,” Nwegbo declared to thunderous applause from party faithful.
Accepting the nomination, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude to the party, delegates, support groups, and observers for what he described as a “historic display of solidarity.”
Reaffirming his commitment to the APGA vision, Soludo said, “Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra. I am humbled and honored to fly the flag of our great party once again. I accept this nomination wholeheartedly.”
The governor used the occasion to highlight his administration’s achievements since taking office, noting that significant strides had been made across sectors without borrowing a single Naira. “We’re doing this without borrowing one Naira. We’ve only just begun Anambra has not seen anything yet,” he declared.
Soludo also praised the peaceful and transparent conduct of the primary, applauding party officials, INEC observers, and security personnel for their roles in ensuring a smooth process.
He further revealed that his current deputy, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, would remain his running mate in the upcoming election. “If it’s not broken, why mend it?” Soludo quipped, expressing confidence in their continued partnership.
Looking ahead to the November election, the governor was bullish about APGA’s chances. “We will win all 21 local governments, the 326 wards, and maybe even all the polling units. We want to make a statement,” he declared boldly.
As the 2025 governorship race gathers momentum, Soludo’s unopposed emergence and strong backing from APGA sets the tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested election in Anambra State.
