The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a community member, Mohammed Abo’ore, who was fatally stabbed while assisting a local vigilance group in apprehending suspected drug users in the Fadikpe area of Minna.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the tragic incident on Monday in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to him, the incident occurred during an operation to arrest miscreants found smoking cannabis in the neighborhood.
Abo’ore was reportedly aiding the vigilance group when one of the suspects, identified as Nura Buhari, attacked him with a pair of scissors and fled the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was later confirmed dead.
The police have since arrested another suspect, Abdullahi Rabiu, who is currently assisting authorities with information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing attacker and others involved.
While the community is still reeling from the shock, a local resident who requested anonymity revealed that the late Abo’ore was a driver employed by one of the new-generation banks in the state.
“He was a peaceful man, known for always promoting harmony in our area. This is a big loss,” the resident said.
The Niger State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that every effort is being made to bring all perpetrators to justice.
