The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain focused on securing a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
According to Keyamo, Tinubu needs another four years to complete the sweeping economic reforms initiated under his administration.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria emphasized that it would be a national tragedy if another administration takes over in 2027 and halts the current reform process.
He argued that the foundation being laid by the Tinubu-led government must not be disrupted, warning that any change in direction could reverse the progress made so far.
"The most profound thing I will say here today is that every single APC member in this country today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, irrespective of whether it affects your personal interest or not," Keyamo declared. "Because he does need a second term to fully finish up all these reforms."
Keyamo further stated that Nigeria has suffered in the past due to inconsistent policies, where successive governments abandoned the programs of their predecessors. He noted that this has often led to a cycle of underdevelopment and economic instability.
“It will be tragic for any government to come in 2027 and stop these reforms. This is what has happened in the past where you have all kinds of inchoate policies being implemented,” he said.
While acknowledging that the reforms introduced by President Tinubu have been met with mixed reactions due to their immediate impact on the cost of living, Keyamo defended them as necessary for long-term economic recovery and growth.
He said that the administration is committed to seeing through the restructuring of Nigeria's fiscal and monetary policies to create a more stable and investor-friendly environment.
Keyamo’s remarks are seen as a strategic message to party loyalists and political stakeholders within the APC, urging unity and discipline as internal succession politics begin to brew ahead of the next general election.
As the 2027 race draws closer, political observers believe the statement may mark the beginning of Tinubu’s re-election campaign messaging.
