A fresh wave of violence rocked the Ônmbazengee settlement, a community located near Atukpu Naka in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State, following a deadly attack reportedly carried out by armed Fulani herdsmen terrorists.
The brutal incident occurred this afternoon, sending shockwaves through the region as terrified residents fled for safety.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, shooting sporadically and causing panic among locals.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least one person is feared dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The full extent of the damage is yet to be confirmed, but homes and farmlands were said to have been destroyed during the onslaught.
Local sources say this is not the first time the Ônmbazengee settlement and surrounding areas have come under such attacks, raising serious concerns about the level of security in Gwer-West and the continued vulnerability of rural communities in Benue State.
Residents are calling on both state and federal governments to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
