Co-founder of the popular media platform ConfirmNews, Emmanuel Doose Terhemen, has openly declared that his support during the last Benue State gubernatorial election was based on a commitment to good governance rather than political affiliation.
In a strongly worded statement, Terhemen explained that his preferred candidate was Barrister Heman Iorwase Hembe, not the current Governor, Hyacinth Alia. According to him, Hembe earned his trust through his remarkable performance as a former member representing Jechira Federal Constituency.
“I am not really a politician—I am a supporter of good governance,” Terhemen stated. “My candidate was Barrister Hembe because of his solid track record during his time in office. I didn’t know Father Alia in the political space, so I couldn’t just believe in him or support him as my candidate.”
While acknowledging that Governor Alia has made commendable progress in terms of infrastructural development since assuming office, Terhemen expressed deep concern over the worsening security crisis in the state.
“Governor Alia has indeed done well in the area of development, but he has failed woefully when it comes to security,” he said. “Benue State is filled with too much pain—too many cries. People are dying every day, and no drastic action has been taken. It’s heartbreaking.”
Terhemen called on the governor to take immediate steps to address the escalating violence and restore peace across the state.
“I’m calling on Governor Alia to act swiftly and help Benue State. He is now the governor of all of us, and the safety of lives and property must be his top priority. Development means little when our people are not safe,” he concluded.
Emmanuel Doose Terhemen’s comments reflect the growing concern among Benue citizens, as insecurity continues to overshadow developmental gains, with calls intensifying for the government to urgently restore order and protect the lives of its residents.
