David Nwokorie, the estranged lover of Genevieve Opara, daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hilary Opara, has made explosive claims about how Genevieve allegedly secured her job at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) amid the lingering fallout of their failed relationship, which has now led to his prolonged detention.
ConfirmNews had earlier reported that Nwokorie is being held in police custody following allegations of cyberstalking and blackmail filed against him by Genevieve.
The Nigeria Police Force imposed stiff administrative bail conditions, drawing public outrage and calls for intervention.
In a conversation obtained by ConfirmNews, David alleged that Genevieve’s current position as a Deputy Manager at PENCOM was made possible through the direct influence of her father, claiming that she had previously failed multiple attempts to secure employment due to lack of qualifications.
He stated, “If your father didn’t give you that job at PENCOM, you’d still be roaming the streets of Owerri or managing a hotel. All your efforts to get a job on your own failed because you’re not qualified.”
Genevieve, now married to Seal Nwaka, an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), reportedly filed a petition against David after he posted flyers online accusing her of vandalism and labeling her “wanted.”
According to human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who intervened in the matter, David’s release has been stalled due to what he described as “ludicrous” bail conditions.
Sowore revealed that even after the Commissioner of Police at the Nigeria Cybercrime Centre (NCC) agreed to process David’s bail, Officer Omaka insisted on strict requirements that appeared deliberately excessive.
ConfirmNews obtained a copy of the bail document from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), which demands that David present two sureties — either Federal Government employees not below Grade Level 17 or businessmen with properties in Abuja valued at over ₦500 million, complete with Certificates of Occupancy. Both categories are required to submit valid identification, letters of introduction, passport photographs, and other supporting documents.
Sources told ConfirmNews that the fallout between David and Genevieve stemmed from a messy breakup. According to David’s lawyer, Barrister Ezike Chibuzor, the relationship turned sour after David discovered Genevieve had previously been married and had two children — facts she allegedly hid during their time together.
Tensions escalated when Genevieve discovered David had proposed to another woman. She reportedly stormed his home, damaged property, and was later sued by David for ₦25 million in damages.
Chibuzor stated that David posted the flyer online after Genevieve allegedly failed to take responsibility for the destruction of his property.
The act led Genevieve to file her petition for blackmail and cyberbullying, which prompted police authorities to arrest David.
Meanwhile, David’s family has accused Genevieve’s father, retired DIG Hilary Opara, of leveraging his connections within the police force to keep David in custody. “We believe Hilary Opara is using his influence to punish David. He’s a former Commissioner of Police and a retired DIG — he has powerful connections,” a family member told ConfirmNews.
Further investigation by ConfirmNews revealed that Genevieve is currently battling her husband, Seal Nwaka, in court over custody of their children.
Sources claim David has reached out to Nwaka and even offered to testify in court, submitting photos of himself with Genevieve and her children.
When contacted, Genevieve told ConfirmNews that David’s arrest is based on serious allegations. “He is currently detained for blackmail, cyberbullying, and making threats to life.
The police must have had valid reasons to arrest him,” she said, while redirecting further questions to her legal representative.
Genevieve’s lawyer declined to comment in detail, stating that the matter is now sub judice. “As of today, the case is before a competent court of jurisdiction, and I cannot speak further on the issue,” she told ConfirmNews.
As the legal drama continues to unfold, the case has raised questions about abuse of influence, personal vendettas, and the blurred lines between private conflict and public institutions. ConfirmNews will continue to follow developments closely.
