Court Throws Out Appeal Bid by Sacked Rivers PDP Executives, Says Party Has Already Appealed

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a motion filed by sacked executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, seeking leave to appeal a judgment that removed them from office.

The motion, brought by former PDP State Chairman, Chukwuemeka Aaron, along with Oye Fubara Igenewari (representing local government executives) and ThankGod Beke (for ward executives), was struck out by Justice Stephen Jumbo on Friday.

The applicants had approached the court as "interested parties" requesting permission to challenge the judgment that nullified the congresses which brought them into office. However, Justice Jumbo ruled that the application was unnecessary, as the PDP—being the defendant in the original suit—had already filed an appeal.

According to the judge, the party’s appeal adequately covers the interests of its sacked executives, making a separate appeal redundant.

It will be recalled that on January 13, 2025, Justice Jumbo delivered a landmark ruling that sacked the entire PDP structure in Rivers State—from ward to state level—after declaring the congresses that elected them null and void.

This latest ruling further tightens the legal noose around the embattled faction, signaling a continued shake-up in the Rivers PDP amidst the ongoing political tension in the state.
