A violent confrontation between local vigilantes and militants in Kebbi State has resulted in the deaths of at least 16 individuals, raising concerns over escalating insecurity in Nigeria's northwest region.
In the early hours of April 7, 2025, a deadly clash occurred in Kebbi State's Augie local government area when local vigilantes confronted militants, locally known as Lakurawa, who had been raiding villages and stealing cattle.
According to residents, the militants opened fire on the villagers, leading to a fierce exchange that left at least 16 people dead.
A police source confirmed the casualties and stated that the bodies have been transported to a local hospital.
