Armed Herders Kill 7, Abduct Women and Children in Midnight Attack

Tragedy has struck again in Benue State as no fewer than seven persons, including women and children, were gruesomely murdered in a midnight attack by suspected armed herders on Agbo Vengav community in Udam, Gwer West Local Government Area.

CONFIRMNEWS gathered that the deadly assault occurred around 1:00 am in the early hours of Friday, leaving residents devastated and many others still missing.

Eyewitnesses from the community, who pleaded anonymity for safety reasons, revealed that the attackers stormed the area while villagers were asleep and opened fire indiscriminately.

“A little girl was among those killed,” the source lamented. “Her mother was abducted by the attackers and till now, we don’t know where she is.”

The locals say the number of fatalities could rise, as a frantic search for the missing continues. As of the time of filing this report, seven lifeless bodies had been recovered.

Security agencies have yet to make an official statement. Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Command proved abortive, as calls to her line were unanswered.

This fresh assault adds to the growing concerns over security in the Middle Belt, where frequent clashes between herders and local farming communities have left thousands dead and displaced.
