The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has issued a stern warning to its members, cautioning them against initiating unauthorized legal actions under the party’s name.
This directive comes in response to a legal petition allegedly filed by a faction of concerned APC stakeholders from Northern Cross River.
Addressing journalists on Monday, the State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, expressed dissatisfaction over the petition, which reportedly targeted the sitting senator of the Northern Senatorial District concerning the 12.5 billion Naira Constituency Fund.
Eba clarified that the party leadership had not sanctioned the legal move and warned against any actions that could misrepresent the party or cause internal discord.
“We want to sound a note of warning to every member of our party. On no account should anybody in the name of our party engage any lawyer for any purpose that seems to give the impression that this party is behind it,” Eba stated firmly.
He further disowned the petition, emphasizing that it did not originate from the APC leadership. “Therefore, the petitions purportedly authorized by the APC concerned group written against the sitting senator of the Northern Senatorial District on the issue of the 12.5 billion Naira Constituency Fund are not from us, and we disassociate ourselves fully from it,” he declared.
In a related development, the Cross River APC leadership reaffirmed its support for Governor Prince Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, endorsing them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 gubernatorial election. Eba highlighted their impressive performance in office as justification for their continued leadership.
“Nobody changes a winning team,” he asserted, underscoring the party’s commitment to unity and stability as it gears up for the next election cycle.
With this warning, the APC leadership aims to maintain discipline within the party ranks and ensure that all legal and political engagements are carried out through the appropriate channels.
