Wike Blasts Rivers Governor Fubara for Surrounding Himself with Desperate Successors

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, accusing him of surrounding himself with politicians who secretly desire his position.

Wike made the remarks during a grand reception held in his honor by the Kalabari people on Saturday. He claimed that those advising Fubara, rather than having his best interests at heart, are actually working to unseat him.

Among them, Wike singled out the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, as a key figure responsible for igniting the political crisis that has gripped the state.

According to Wike, Danagogo allegedly manipulated legal avenues through his brother, a serving judge, to secure ex-parte court orders that favored a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

These orders, Wike claimed, were used to justify the defection of 27 lawmakers and also enabled the governor to present the state budget to just three or four legislators an act he described as an abuse of power.

"The problem started when Danagogo, the Secretary to the Government, used his elder brother, who is a justice, to secure an ex-parte order claiming that 27 lawmakers had defected unnoticed. He also used the same order to validate that the state governor could present the budget to only three or four lawmakers," Wike alleged.

He further accused Danagogo of harboring deep resentment over being denied the governorship ticket, suggesting that his allegiance to Fubara was insincere and self-serving.

"Look at Danagogo, who wanted to be governor. He was so pained that he was not given the ticket. He is the one following the governor, and Fubara does not know.

He will lead you to hellfire," Wike said, warning that the governor’s inner circle was filled with saboteurs.

Taking a direct jab at Fubara’s leadership choices, Wike stated that the governor was already "losing the battle" because of the bad advice he was receiving.

"You surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor whom I said ‘no’ to because they don’t mean well for Rivers State. They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice.

Do you think you will succeed? They are giving you bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come," Wike declared.

The minister also dismissed claims that he was being attacked unfairly by Fubara’s camp, insisting that those currently undermining him were the real threats to the governor’s tenure.

"They come there and abuse me, and you are happy. You don’t know it is you they want to destroy," Wike said.

The escalating political tension between Wike and Fubara has thrown Rivers State into a deepening crisis, with divisions growing between loyalists on both sides.

The feud, which began soon after Fubara took office, has seen legal battles, defections, and allegations of political sabotage dominate the state’s political landscape.

With Wike now openly declaring Fubara’s administration vulnerable, the coming weeks could see further drama unfold as the battle for control of Rivers State politics intensifies.
