President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate investigation into the tragic tanker explosion that rocked the Karu area of Abuja on Wednesday night, leading to multiple accidents and loss of lives. He also directed priority treatment for injured victims across various medical facilities in the capital city.
The President’s directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled, ‘President Tinubu Directs Investigation into Tanker Explosion in Karu, Sympathises with Victims’.
Preliminary reports indicate that brake failure and poor road conditions may have contributed to the explosion, though Tinubu has tasked relevant authorities with conducting a comprehensive probe to determine the exact cause and recommend preventive measures for the future.
Expressing deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, Tinubu instructed security agencies, including road safety officials, to intensify monitoring and traffic control at entry and exit points of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to prevent further incidents.
Onanuga stated, “The President condoled with family members who lost loved ones in the inferno, which happened at peak hours. President Tinubu ordered priority treatment of the injured in various medical facilities in the capital city.”
The Abuja explosion adds to a growing list of tanker-related tragedies across Nigeria in 2025, raising urgent concerns over road safety regulations and infrastructure conditions.
Tinubu also prayed for the souls of the departed and asked for divine comfort for their grieving families.
