The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has confidently predicted that President Bola Tinubu will be unseated in the 2027 elections, asserting that the SDP will produce Nigeria’s next leader.
Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Friday, Adebayo vowed to contest for the presidency again, dismissing any fears about political heavyweights defecting to his party.
"Tinubu is going to be removed from power, that one is sure, and there will be an SDP president," Adebayo declared.
He reaffirmed his determination to run for the presidency, emphasizing that regardless of the stature of new members joining the SDP, his candidacy remains certain.
"Everyone who is coming into the party knows I will run in 2027. Any coward who feels threatened by new entrants cannot be president," he added.
Adebayo’s remarks come in the wake of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent defection to the SDP. Since joining, El-Rufai has been making strategic moves to attract more politicians to the party, sparking speculations about potential shifts in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Despite El-Rufai’s growing influence within the party, Adebayo welcomed him, describing the former governor as a “patriotic and hardworking Nigerian” who has been effective in governance where many have failed.
With political tensions heating up and realignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections, all eyes are now on the SDP and whether it can truly emerge as a formidable challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
