Pope Francis Remains Stable, Holy See Reports

The Vatican has reassured the public that Pope Francis’ condition remains stable as he continues receiving treatment for bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.

"The night passed quietly; the Pope is still resting," the Holy See Press Office informed journalists on Thursday morning, offering a much-anticipated update on the Pontiff’s health.

On Wednesday evening, the Press Office released a detailed medical report stating that the 87-year-old Pope has shown no signs of respiratory distress.

His treatment includes high-flow supplemental oxygen, and non-invasive mechanical ventilation was scheduled to continue overnight. Despite the challenges of his condition, the Pope has remained active within his limitations.

The Holy See confirmed that he increased his respiratory and motor physiotherapy, spending much of the day seated in his armchair.

"Given the complexity of the clinical situation, the prognosis remains guarded," the statement emphasized, reflecting the cautious optimism of his medical team.

Pope Francis, known for his unwavering commitment to his spiritual responsibilities, participated in the blessing of the Sacred Ashes from his private apartment on the 10th floor of the hospital.

The rite was performed by a celebrant, who imposed the ashes on the Pontiff before he received the Eucharist. Even while battling illness, the Pope maintained his pastoral outreach.

In the morning, he engaged in work activities and made a personal call to Father Gabriel Romanelli, the parish priest of the Holy Family Church in Gaza.

The afternoon was spent alternating between rest and work, a routine that reflects his enduring dedication to his role despite his fragile health.

Pope Francis has been hospitalized since February 14, receiving ongoing treatment for bilateral pneumonia. His medical team has reassured the public that his condition is evolving as expected under treatment.

Encouragingly, there have been no respiratory crises in the past two days. However, doctors stress that time is still needed for further evaluations.

While the Pope’s clinical picture remains stable, the situation remains complex, requiring close monitoring in the coming days.

As the world watches closely, prayers and well wishes continue to pour in from the faithful across the globe.

Many hope for a swift recovery for the Pope, who has consistently demonstrated resilience in the face of health challenges. The Vatican is expected to release further updates as his condition progresses.
