Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has weighed in on the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state, alleging that the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is rooted in a battle over money sharing.
Speaking in an interview with DW on Saturday, Amaechi accused both political figures of prioritizing personal financial interests over governance.
“The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel? Nigerians don’t dislike corruption anymore.
I’ve not seen anybody on the street questioning what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the issue is really about?” he said.
Amaechi also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s emergency intervention in the Rivers State crisis, describing it as unconstitutional.
While he did not elaborate on his stance, his remarks suggest growing discontent over the federal government’s handling of the political turbulence in the state.
The power struggle between Fubara and Wike has dominated political discourse in Rivers State, with intense factional battles threatening governance and stability. As tensions continue to escalate, Amaechi’s comments add another layer of controversy to the unfolding drama.
