Popular cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele has issued a strong warning to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, urging him not to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election unless he forms a powerful coalition.
In a statement released by his media aide, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church cautioned Obi against a solo bid, stating that Tinubu’s political stronghold and nationwide influence make it nearly impossible for a single challenger to unseat him.
Ayodele warned that without strategic alliances, Obi’s campaign would result in wasted resources and inevitable failure.
According to the cleric, Obi’s core supporters particularly from the Igbo community may not provide the overwhelming backing he expects, further weakening his chances. He stressed that unity among opposition leaders is the only viable path to defeating the ruling party.
Ayodele’s prophecy has sparked intense debate within Nigeria’s political landscape, with many analysts weighing in on the Labour Party’s strategy for 2027.
While some believe a coalition could strengthen the opposition, others argue that Obi’s independent appeal remains his biggest asset.
As the 2027 election draws closer, all eyes are on Peter Obi to see whether he will heed Ayodele’s advice or forge ahead with his presidential ambition alone.
