Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta following his arraignment on multiple charges, including assault and obstruction of government officials.
Portable’s legal troubles began after he was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command. The singer later surrendered himself to the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) on Wednesday before being transferred to the Ogun State Police Headquarters in Eleweran. He was subsequently presented before the magistrate court on Thursday.
The court charged Portable with five counts, including conspiracy, assault, obstruction of public officials, and possession of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and guns.
The charges also included conduct likely to cause public harm. However, the singer pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
His counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, pleaded for bail, stating that the singer had shown remorse and had learned from the experience. Magistrate O. L. Oke granted Portable bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned to March 5 for trial.
In addition to Portable, nine of his aides were also arraigned before the magistrate on similar charges. The court proceedings attracted significant public attention, as the singer is known for his controversial lifestyle and frequent brushes with the law.
With his release on bail, all eyes will be on Portable as he prepares to defend himself in court while continuing his music career under legal scrutiny.
