A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, has acquitted popular musician Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, and three others in connection with the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje implemented the legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), declaring that Naira Marley had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s tragic passing.
Also cleared of any wrongdoing were music promoter Samson Balogun, popularly called Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, also known as Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
The court's decision has sparked mixed reactions, particularly from fans of the late singer, who have been seeking justice since his sudden demise in September 2023.
While Naira Marley and the others walked free, the DPP recommended the prosecution of the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of the late singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq.
They will face trial for reckless and negligent acts, contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law.
The legal battle over Mohbad’s death has remained a subject of intense public scrutiny, with many closely watching the proceedings.
With this latest development, the focus now shifts to the trial of Ogedengbe and Sadiq, as fans and the entertainment industry await further legal actions in the case.
