A 23-year-old man has been detained by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in a tragic case of domestic violence.
The incident, which occurred on Friday around 8:00 pm in the Ijedodo, Isheri-Osun area of Lagos, has sent shockwaves through the community.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the suspect was taken into custody and is currently under investigation.
According to preliminary reports, a neighbor witnessed the suspect assaulting his girlfriend inside his apartment. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
Shortly after the altercation, the suspect reportedly screamed for help. When neighbors arrived, they found the victim lying unconscious on the bed with visible marks of violence on her body. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, but doctors on duty confirmed her dead on arrival.
Police detectives were swiftly dispatched to the scene of the crime and the hospital. The body was inspected, documented, and later transferred to a morgue in Yaba for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in detention and is undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served. This disturbing case has once again highlighted the growing concern over domestic violence and the need for increased awareness and preventive measures.
