The Benue State Government has strongly denied reports alleging the killing of 50 people in Kwande Local Government Area, calling the claims misleading and unverified.
In a statement released on Sunday, the state government described the reports as an attempt to spread panic among residents and tarnish the administration’s efforts in ensuring security.
Officials emphasized that security agencies operating in the region have found no credible evidence to support the claims.
"We urge the public to disregard these false reports. Our security forces remain on high alert, and there is no record of such an incident in Kwande," the statement read.
The government reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and urged media outlets to verify information before publication.
Meanwhile, security agencies continue to monitor the situation to prevent any potential threats in the area.
