A wave of terror swept through Tsiga village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State as armed bandits abducted the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (retd.), in the early hours of Thursday.
The attack, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., saw the assailants storm the community, shooting sporadically to instill fear and prevent resistance.
In the aftermath, one person was confirmed dead, while at least nine others were forcefully taken away by the gunmen. Several homes were also ransacked, with valuables carted away, leaving residents in a state of shock and despair.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits arrived in large numbers, wielding sophisticated weapons, and operated with impunity for an extended period before retreating into the night.
The abduction of the retired military officer has sent ripples of concern across the state and beyond, given his prominence in national service.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Katsina State Police Command remain inconclusive, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, stated that he was yet to receive a briefing on the incident.
“I am yet to be briefed on the facts of the reports. I’ll get back to you as soon as I get the details, please,” he said when contacted.
Residents of Tsiga village are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and restore peace in the region.
The latest attack underscores the growing insecurity in Katsina State and the need for swift government intervention.
