Nigeria-China Investment Summit 2025, House of Reps Committee Sets Plans in Motion

In a strategic move to enhance foreign investments and strengthen economic ties, the House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria-China Parliamentary Relations has inaugurated a Technical Planning Committee to organize the Nigeria-China Sustainable Trade, Investment, and Bilateral Relations Summit in 2025.

The summit, a first-of-its-kind initiative by the 10th National Assembly, aims to deepen trade relations between Nigeria and China, a key global economic player and one of Nigeria’s most significant business partners.

To ensure its successful execution, the committee has appointed Merited Negotiation Consulting, led by Honourable Kunle Yusuff, as the official organizer.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Hon. Jafaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria-China Parliamentary Relations, emphasized that the summit will serve as a platform to create a legislative framework that fosters ease of doing business between the two nations.

He urged members of the Technical Planning Committee to work closely with Merited Negotiation Consulting to deliver an impactful event.

The summit’s key objectives include showcasing credible investment opportunities, facilitating investor engagement in market-ready projects, and fostering partnerships that will enhance the business environment. The event will also serve as a primary hub for connecting investors with financial institutions, further driving economic growth.

Priority sectors for discussion and investment at the summit include agriculture, mining and solid minerals, power and renewable energy, communication/ICT, oil and gas, construction, and entrepreneurship.

These sectors are crucial to Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts and align with China’s interest in expanding its footprint in Africa.

The Technical Planning Committee comprises representatives from key institutions, including the Chinese Embassy, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), and the National Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Private sector players, such as the China Chamber of Commerce and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, have also pledged their support for the event.

During the meeting, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria expressed full support for the initiative, pledging technical assistance and cooperation.

The Director-General of the China Chamber of Commerce further assured the participation of top Chinese companies already operating in Nigeria, reinforcing China’s commitment to expanding economic partnerships.

Hon. Kunle Yusuff, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of Merited Negotiation Consulting, expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in his team, assuring that the summit would yield outstanding results. He called on relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to collaborate and contribute to the event’s success.

With preparations now in full swing, the Nigeria-China Sustainable Trade, Investment, and Bilateral Relations Summit 2025 is expected to attract high-level stakeholders from both countries, paving the way for enhanced economic cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships.
