Florence Eshalomi Appointed UK Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Pledges Stronger Economic Ties

British-Nigerian politician Florence Eshalomi has been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, making her the second Nigerian to hold the prestigious position.

Eshalomi, a Member of Parliament representing the Vauxhall and Camberwell Green constituency, confirmed her appointment on Tuesday via her official X account, expressing enthusiasm about fostering stronger economic ties between the UK and Nigeria.

“It is an honour to have been appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria. I’m looking forward to building on my close ties with Nigeria to promote a strong and flourishing economic relationship between our two great nations.

 I am looking forward to strengthening the UK’s relationship with Nigeria to explore shared growth and opportunities for both countries,” she wrote.

Her appointment is part of a broader initiative by the UK government to expand its global trade partnerships and attract foreign investments. 

In a statement announcing the new trade envoys, UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds emphasized the strategic importance of these roles in driving economic growth.

“I’ve launched a new team of trade envoys who will use their experience, expertise, and knowledge to unlock new markets around the world for British businesses, attract investment into the UK, and ultimately drive economic growth,” Reynolds stated.

At 44, Eshalomi brings a wealth of experience to the role. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Political and International Studies with Law from Middlesex University and has built a strong political career advocating for trade, investment, and community development.

Her appointment is expected to strengthen trade relations between the UK and Nigeria, facilitating new investment opportunities, enhancing bilateral trade policies, and fostering economic cooperation between both nations. 

As Nigeria continues to be one of the UK’s key trade partners in Africa, Eshalomi’s leadership could play a crucial role in deepening these ties for mutual economic prosperity.
